WEEK ONE: DAY 6

Tell the Next Generation

Return to This Week’s Reading

Psalm 22

Focus Scripture

“Posterity shall serve him; it shall be told of the Lord to the coming generation; they shall come and proclaim his righteousness to a people yet unborn, that he has done it.”

Psalm 22:30-31

Prepare Your Heart

Psalm 22 begins with the cry, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” and ends looking toward generations yet unborn who will hear what God has done. That is our prayer for the next generation. We want our children not simply to inherit our traditions, but to know the God who has acted to save them and someday tell the generation after them what He has done.

Pray

  • Thank God for the people who faithfully told you about Jesus.

  • Pray for your children by name. Ask God not merely to keep them safe, but to make them men and women who know, love, and obey Jesus.

  • Fathers, ask God to make your faith visible in your home, not only in what you teach, but in the way you repent, forgive, serve, pray, and love.

  • Pray for single parents, grandparents, foster parents, and others carrying significant responsibility for raising children.

  • Pray for Steadfast Kids and Steadfast Students. Ask God to give our leaders wisdom and use them to help form lifelong disciples.

  • Pray that the children growing up in our church would one day tell another generation about the righteousness and saving grace of God.

If your children are grown, keep praying. There is no age at which a parent stops entrusting a child to the Lord.

One More

Ask your One More how you can pray for them. If appropriate, pray with them rather than simply promising to pray later.
